Dr. Merrin Hicks joined Peninsula Vet Emergency and Referral Hospital (ERH) in 2023.
A graduate of the University of Sydney, Merrin has completed residency training at the University of Melbourne and Murdoch University, passing Fellowship examinations in emergency and critical care in 2012 to become a registered specialist in the same year. Merrin has also undergone two years of advanced surgical training in the USA, taught undergraduates at various Universities in Australia and overseas, conducted research, and has completed a Masters degree. Merrin has been a founding director of two multi-disciplinary specialist and emergency hospitals in Melbourne. She is undertaking a graduate veterinary education certificate.
Her special interests include:
- Emergency soft-tissue surgery
- Mechanical Ventilation
- Communication, leadership theory and mentoring.
Merrin has published papers on various topics including acid-base theory, non-steriodal anti-inflammatories, local anaesthesia protocols, joint disease and septic peritonitis.
Her pet family consists of sheep, horses, chickens, two dogs (Trac and Ernie, both Kelpie-crosses) and a couple of mini-pigs.
