Qualifications: BVSc, BApp Sci(Hons) MANZCVS (Animal Reproduction)

Dr. Luke Smith grew up in Victoria moving to Queensland after high school to study Veterinary Technology University of Queensland, Gatton.

Whilst doing his Honors’ thesis looking at markers in cattle related to tick resistance, he started working at University of Queensland, Brisbane as a Vet Nurse in their emergency practice.

He completed his Bachelor of Veterinary Science at James Cook University in Townsville, Graduating in 2012. One of his final year placements was at Vineyard Veterinary Hospital, he returned in 2013 commencing working as a full time veterinarian.

During His time at Vineyard, he has developed a passion for Reproduction, completing his Membership examinations in Animal reproduction in 2021. He is currently working to complete his study requirements for the American College of Theriogenologists via the Alternate Training Route. He has been performing Transcervical inseminations for over 5 years, resulting in litters from fresh, chilled and frozen semen.

Throughout his Veterinary career he has had the opportunity to work with a vast range of species including big cats such as Lions and Tigers, Wildlife species such as Kangaroos, wallabies, Koalas and reptiles as well as the more expected species to see in a veterinary clinic such as dogs and cats.

He is also a dedicated husband and loving father of three beautiful children that adore him immensely.
